During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several community matters, including the upcoming Pumpkin Fest and clarifications regarding local traffic incidents and housing vacancy rates.
The Pumpkin Fest is scheduled for October 5th from 2 to 6 PM at Kiena Park, a popular annual event featuring activities for children, including pumpkin-related games and coloring.
Trustee Welch addressed concerns raised in the previous meeting regarding the Solara project at Beckett Ridge. He clarified that the reported 115 traffic incidents on Beckett Ridge Boulevard were actually 67 traffic stops and 12 total crashes, which he noted is consistent with typical traffic patterns for a thoroughfare. He emphasized that these figures do not indicate a significant increase from previous years.
Welch also responded to comments about the local housing market, specifically a reported 5.1% vacancy rate. He explained that this figure encompasses all types of housing units and falls within the acceptable national range of 4-8%. He argued that a moderate vacancy rate can facilitate property sales and valuations.
Additionally, Welch mentioned a past proposal for a park on Beckett Ridge homeowner property, which was rejected by the homeowners association despite its potential benefits. He expressed frustration over the community's reluctance to support park development while simultaneously advocating for more recreational spaces.
The meeting concluded with a light-hearted acknowledgment of the recent rainfall, highlighting the community's appreciation for natural resources.
