In a recent city council meeting, Joe Daring, representative of Empowered Venture Operations Tampa Bay LLC, provided an annual update on the zipline canopy tour facility at Mobley Bayou Wilderness Preserve. Daring expressed gratitude for the community's resilience following Hurricane Helene, noting that the facility remained largely unaffected.
Empowered Ventures, which has been operational since February 2016, aims to empower individuals through adventure experiences, including ziplining and guided paddling. Daring highlighted the facility's growth, reporting nearly 13,000 visitors in the past year and a total of over 80,000 since its inception. He emphasized the importance of safety and family-friendly activities, inviting council members to experience the views from the zipline.
The economic impact of the facility has been significant, with nearly $350,000 paid in revenue shares to the city over the years. Daring noted that 80% of guests spend additional money in Oldsmar, benefiting local businesses. The facility employs over 30 individuals and has contributed approximately $35,000 to local charities in the past year.
Daring also mentioned the facility's recognition in local surveys, competing for the title of best family activity against established attractions like the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. He expressed appreciation for the city's support and collaboration with various local organizations to promote the facility and enhance community synergy.
The meeting concluded with Daring's commitment to continue fostering partnerships and contributing to the community's recovery efforts post-storm.
