During a recent school board meeting, the Goose Creek school district celebrated the achievements of its students at the Texas History Day and National History Day competitions. Faith Longorio, the associate director of social studies, highlighted the exceptional performances of students who excelled at both state and national levels.
Among the notable achievements, a group from EF Green Junior School secured 5th place at the National History Day in the group exhibit category with their project titled \"From Sea to Shining Sea, the Transcontinental Railroad Redefines the Face of a Nation.\" This group also received the Irish American History Award. Another group from Baytown Junior School placed 9th nationally with their project \"The Box That Changed the World,\" earning multiple awards at the Texas History Day competition.
Longorio emphasized the unique accomplishment of having two projects from the same school district rank in the top 10 at the national level, a feat not achieved by any other district in the country. The meeting also recognized individual winners, including Mahi Singh, who won 1st place at the state level for her historical paper on civil rights, and Ava Flood, who received accolades for her individual exhibit on divorce law.
The board expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the community and the dedication of sponsors and teachers who guided the students in their research and presentations. The event underscored the district's commitment to fostering a strong educational environment that encourages historical inquiry and excellence among its students.
