Sunset Park Elementary School Center for Accelerated Studies, under the leadership of Dr. Nikia Barnes, received recognition as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School. This honor reflects the school's commitment to excellence and its effective academic programs.

The Blue Ribbon program emphasizes a rigorous self-assessment process, which includes evaluating nine key indicators of school performance. This comprehensive evaluation was followed by an on-site visit from the Blue Ribbon team, who reviewed the school's findings and collaborated with Dr. Barnes and her leadership team to develop a strategic action plan aimed at enhancing student achievement.

The recognition is not only a testament to the hard work of Dr. Barnes and the Sunset Park staff but also to the collective efforts of the entire school community, including students and families. The designation as a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School is valid for five years, after which the school will be eligible for renewal, ensuring ongoing commitment to high educational standards.

Additionally, the meeting acknowledged the academic excellence of a student from Rock Hill High School, Kevin Wynn, who achieved a perfect composite score of 36 on his ACT. Although he was unable to attend the meeting due to other commitments, his accomplishment was celebrated alongside the achievements of Sunset Park Elementary.
