In a recent government meeting, significant developments regarding infrastructure and facility improvements at PSU were discussed, highlighting ongoing projects and future plans aimed at enhancing campus operations and student services.
This year alone, over 150 work orders have been issued for various projects, reflecting a proactive approach to facility maintenance and space utilization. A key focus is the completion of a new campus master plan, guided by the strategic initiative known as Guerrilla Rising.
Among the notable updates is the successful opening of the H.W. Smith Center, which now houses the new student success center within the recently renovated acts library. The library's HVAC system has been upgraded, replacing outdated equipment from the 1960s, ensuring improved climate control for students and staff.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the long-standing issue of the campus's aging infrastructure, specifically the 100-year-old brick tunnels and compromised utility lines. A project to address these concerns is now out to bid, with plans to secure additional funding through state demolition funds. This funding will facilitate the demolition of the Shirk complex, a residential hall built in the 1950s and 1960s, with a timeline set for completion in 2025.
The expansion of the Tyler Center for the National Institute for Materials Advancement was also highlighted, with construction documents nearing completion. This project aims to address deferred maintenance while enhancing the facility's capabilities.
Overall, these initiatives reflect PSU's commitment to improving campus facilities and ensuring a conducive environment for student success.
