During a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around the approval of industrial tax exemptions for Supreme Rice Mill facilities in Mermentau and Crowley. The Budget and Finance Committee recommended the renewal of these exemptions, which were unanimously approved by the board.
The meeting highlighted the positive impact of these exemptions on local employment and business operations. Danny, a representative from Supreme Rice, reported that the company has expanded its workforce beyond initial projections, now employing approximately 350 individuals across its facilities, with an additional 50 in Arkansas. This growth is attributed to the company's recent projects, which include parboiling and milling rice, allowing them to better serve their clientele by offering split loads of milled and parboiled rice.
Danny also discussed ongoing improvements to the facilities, including the installation of new equipment at the Crowley mill, which had previously been underutilized. Plans are in place to rebuild parts of the mill to enhance efficiency and capacity, with a completion target set before the next crop season.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue supporting local businesses like Supreme Rice, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and upgrading facilities to remain competitive in the industry.
