During a recent government meeting, Dickinson High School and Dickinson Independent School District (ISD) received prestigious accolades from the Texas Educational Theater Association, marking a significant achievement for both institutions.
Dickinson High School was recognized as an exemplary campus at the Theater Fest convention held in Galveston, a first-time honor for the school. The association commended the school's theater leaders for their unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership, highlighting their commitment to fostering a nurturing educational environment. The award was accepted by theater directors Laurel Powell, Marissa Hathaway, and Roxanne Sheffield, who were praised for inspiring students and fellow educators alike.
In addition, Dickinson ISD was also named an exemplary district, receiving the same honor for the first time. The association's notification emphasized the district's dedication to providing enriching educational experiences and its positive influence on the community. Paul Trahan, the director of Fine Arts, accepted the award on behalf of the district.
The meeting also recognized eight students from Dickinson High School who earned special honors through the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone program. Five current seniors and three recent graduates received either an AP Capstone diploma or certificate for their academic achievements during the 2022-2023 school year. The students recognized included Bethany Lloyd, Natalia Moreno, Reece Richardson, Kelsey Cervantes, and Anna Dawson. Special acknowledgment was given to teachers Christy Trahan and Abby Spruill for their successful implementation of the capstone course in its inaugural year.
The meeting concluded without public comments, but the recognition of these educational achievements underscored the commitment to excellence within the Dickinson community.
