During a recent government meeting, key discussions included the approval of a tax suspension process, a construction change order, and several appointments to local committees.
Treasurer Scott Finlayson was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict but assured that the tax suspension process is straightforward. The Board unanimously approved the suspension, which allows for tax payments to be deferred until individuals are able to pay.
The Board also approved Change Order 5 for the Administration and Health and Human Services building remodeling project, amounting to $22,647.71. This motion was passed with full support from the members present.
In terms of committee appointments, the Board appointed Bill Waldy and Ashley Salinas to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee. Additionally, they reappointed Ruben Ross to represent law enforcement and Anne Santos as a representative of business, parent, resident, or youth on the Juvenile Justice and Youth Development Policy Board. New appointments included Kylie Schmidt and Marcus Brooks, both serving three-year terms starting October 1, 2023.
Supervisor reports highlighted concerns regarding public health, particularly an increase in suicides despite a slight overall decrease in deaths in the county. Supervisor Green emphasized the importance of community support for individuals facing challenges, especially following the recent recovery month proclamation.
The meeting concluded with a reminder of an upcoming meeting scheduled for October 10, where further discussions and decisions will take place.
