Residents along Southeast Hawthorne Road are raising alarms over noise disturbances linked to the recently reopened Lakeside Bar and Grill at Earl Powers Boat Park. The establishment, which had previously faced closure due to code enforcement issues, has reignited concerns among locals, particularly regarding excessive noise and traffic congestion.
Community members reported that every weekend since the bar's reopening, they have experienced significant noise complaints, with loud music audible from as far away as Lakeshore Drive and Kate's Fish Camp. The disturbances reportedly begin around 9 PM and continue until 4 AM, disrupting the peace for families and children in the area.
Local law enforcement, including the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, has been made aware of the situation. However, residents expressed frustration over the limited number of deputies available to manage the influx of visitors, which has seen upwards of 200 cars lining Southeast Hawthorne Road each weekend. This heavy traffic has led to dangerous situations, including a recent accident in the vicinity.
Despite attempts by deputies to address the noise complaints, residents claim that the music resumes shortly after law enforcement leaves the area. The ongoing situation has prompted calls for further action to ensure the safety and comfort of the community.
