In a recent government meeting, the city council unanimously approved a resolution to establish an inter-agency agreement aimed at administering a down payment assistance program, a key initiative supported by Council Member Happel. The motion for approval was made by Council Member Trost and seconded by Council President Kalo.
Mayor Keyes provided insight into the significance of the program, emphasizing its role in promoting homeownership and ensuring equitable use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The down payment assistance program, which has been operational since April, has seen 35 applications submitted, with 24 approved and 8 successfully closed. Currently, 3 applications are in the closing process, indicating a positive trend in accepted offers.
The mayor highlighted the importance of the agreement with the Redevelopment Authority (RDA) to manage the program effectively and ensure that the allocated $400,000 in ARPA funds is fully utilized by the deadline of December 2026. This strategic move aims to prevent any loss of funds due to potential complications in individual home purchases.
Additionally, the city is actively promoting homeownership through various initiatives, including a replacement housing program and partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Dignity Homes, which focuses on building sustainable homes. The council's decision reflects a commitment to enhancing access to homeownership and addressing housing needs within the community.
