During a recent Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Norell expressed gratitude towards school staff, particularly highlighting the contributions of Advanced Placement (AP) teachers and their students. Dr. Norell emphasized the collaborative nature of educational success, stating that no individual can achieve their role without the support of others in the school community.

In her address, Dr. Norell celebrated the accomplishments of 103 students who excelled in AP courses, attributing their success to the dedication and innovative efforts of their teachers. She specifically acknowledged the introduction of the AP Seminar course, which was integrated into the curriculum as a substitute for the traditional English 10 class. This initiative aimed to expand equity and access to advanced coursework for all students, a move that is often considered unconventional.

The AP Seminar course allows students to earn a capstone diploma, comparable to the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, by successfully completing additional AP classes. Dr. Norell praised the courage and commitment of the teachers who supported this initiative, noting that their efforts were recognized nationally when they were invited to present at a College Board event in Las Vegas.

The meeting underscored the importance of recognizing the hard work of educators and the collaborative environment necessary for student achievement, reinforcing the message that the success of students is a collective effort.
