During a recent government meeting, key updates were shared regarding the state of the district, upcoming events, and significant achievements within the educational community.
The annual State of the District event is scheduled for October 30th at York High School, starting at 7 PM. This gathering aims to reflect on the past year and discuss progress aligned with the district's strategic plan.
In a notable initiative, the district's student services team collaborated with SURGE, a special education resource group, to host an informative event for parents on September 11th. Approximately 50 attendees learned how to effectively participate in IEP and 504 meetings, receiving positive feedback and plans for future training sessions.
Additionally, the district reported on the successful implementation of the CARES grant, which awarded $249,000 for free mental health services. Since its launch in February, over 100 students have accessed these services, totaling more than 500 visits. However, the funding is projected to be depleted by October or November, prompting the district to seek new funding opportunities to continue supporting families.
A highlight of the meeting was the announcement that Jefferson Elementary School has received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award, recognizing its high academic achievement and efforts to close the achievement gap. This accolade marks a significant milestone for the school, which serves 344 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The principal emphasized that this achievement is a collective effort involving past and present staff, students, and families.
The meeting concluded with reminders of upcoming board meetings, including one on October 15, 2024, and a committee meeting on October 29, 2024. The district continues to foster a strong sense of community and commitment to educational excellence, as demonstrated by these initiatives and recognitions.
