During a recent government meeting, council members discussed the proposed traffic improvements at the intersection of Mars and Trilby. The current configuration is a T-intersection controlled by stop signs, and the proposed changes will maintain this setup for the time being. Council members expressed concerns about the potential for increased traffic congestion as a result of new developments in the area.
The discussion highlighted that while there are plans for long-term improvements, such as widening the road to a four-lane arterial, immediate enhancements are not on the agenda. Council member Gutowski raised questions about the adequacy of the current stop-controlled intersection, noting that the increase in traffic could create challenges for drivers entering and exiting the area.
In response to concerns about traffic flow, it was clarified that there are alternative routes available for drivers, including a right-in, right-out access point north of Ziggy's on College Avenue, which allows for easier eastbound travel on Trilby. However, no significant upgrades, such as traffic lights, are planned for the Mars and Trilby intersection at this time.
The traffic study that informed the current planning was conducted in 2022, leading some council members to question the relevance of the data given the recent increase in traffic. The meeting underscored the need for ongoing evaluation of traffic patterns as development progresses in the area.
