The City Commission of Altamonte Springs convened on September 17, 2024, for its regularly scheduled meeting, where key discussions centered around the proposed annual budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Chief Financial Officer Tara Culver presented the proposed budget, which totals $136 million. A significant point of discussion was the planned increase in the millage rate from 3.1 mills to 4.0 mills, marking a 29% rise. This adjustment is expected to generate an additional $5.4 million for the general fund, which will be allocated to various essential services, including law enforcement, first responders, police recruitment and retention, special needs programs, community initiatives, facility improvements, and library services.
The meeting began with a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, and the minutes from the previous meeting were approved unanimously. During the informal communication segment, no members of the public addressed the Commission, leading directly into the public hearing on the budget.
The proposed budget reflects the city's commitment to enhancing public safety and community services, indicating a proactive approach to addressing the needs of Altamonte Springs residents as they prepare for the new fiscal year.
