In a heartfelt address at the recent government meeting, Peg Brace announced the upcoming Alzheimer's Walk scheduled for September 28th at Hall Park in Traverse City. This annual event, which has been a staple in the community since 1992, aims to raise awareness and support for those living with Alzheimer's disease.
Brace, whose father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1992, emphasized the importance of community support and the resources available through the local Alzheimer's office, the only one north of Grand Rapids. She expressed gratitude for the active support groups that have emerged over the years, highlighting the need for continued community engagement in the fight against Alzheimer's.
The walk will take participants along a scenic route from Hall Park to 16th Street on the Boardman Trail, promising a day of fun and camaraderie. Brace encouraged families and pets to join in the festivities, which will feature entertainment, including appearances by Monty and the Ghostbusters.
The event not only serves as a fundraiser but also as a platform to foster community spirit and support for those affected by Alzheimer's, reinforcing the message that no one should face the challenges of the disease alone.
