During a recent government meeting, Spokane Sports presented an exciting vision for the programming of a new beach volleyball course at Browns Park, which features 16 courts, including a championship court. The meeting highlighted an upcoming event organized by the Kokua Beach Volleyball Club, scheduled for October 12-13, which will be an AVA AVCA sanctioned tournament. This event will award two bids to the 2024 AVCA Beach National Championship for women's collegiate pairs, set to take place in Huntsville from November 15-17.
The tournament is expected to attract competitive teams, showcasing the city's commitment to enhancing its sports facilities and promoting local events. The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department collaborates with the Evergreen Volleyball Association to manage the programming of the courts, ensuring they are utilized effectively.
Additionally, the department recommended approval of a $400,000 request to support Spokane Sports in their budget planning for 2025. This funding, sourced from a TPA grant, will facilitate further development of the beach volleyball course and related activities. The meeting underscored the city's dedication to fostering sports and recreation opportunities, with hopes that favorable weather conditions will enhance the experience for participants and visitors alike.
