In a spirited presentation to the school board, Peter Kennedy, a senior at B. Reed Henderson High School, highlighted the impressive achievements of the school's athletic and extracurricular programs during the opening month of the academic year. The football team remains undefeated with a record of 5-0, having scored a remarkable 201 points. The boys' soccer team also boasts an undefeated status, with only one tie against Phoenixville.
Kennedy praised the dedication of student athletes across various sports, including cross country, field hockey, volleyball, sailing, dance, and cheerleading, noting their hard work over the summer has led to stellar performances. He also celebrated the success of the Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard, which recently secured first place in both musical and visual categories at the US Bands Competition.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the dedication of the new Freedom Shrine at Henderson, a gift from the Exchange Club of West Chester. This shrine, which houses 30 foundational American documents, serves as a reminder of the values of democracy and patriotism, encouraging students to reflect on the sacrifices made by previous generations.
In addition to athletic and artistic accomplishments, Kennedy announced that the Henderson Civics Club will host a nonpartisan voter drive to engage young people in the upcoming elections. The school also recently held its first activity fair, showcasing various extracurricular opportunities for students.
Looking ahead, Henderson is preparing for its annual homecoming festivities, themed around major cities, which will include a week of spirit competitions and culminate in a pep rally, carnival, football game, and dance.
Kennedy concluded his remarks with a tribute to former school board representative Forum Shaw and shared a limerick celebrating the school's vibrant spirit and achievements. The meeting underscored a strong sense of community and pride among Henderson students as they embark on another promising school year.
