During a recent government meeting, the chair of the Cross Timbers Artists Studio Tour, alongside co-chair Alton, announced plans for the 2024 season, highlighting a celebration of the tour's founder, Kathleen House, who initiated the event in 2001. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the town's Month of the Arts, a celebration that has become a staple in the community.
The chair expressed a long-standing vision for a comprehensive arts center that would encompass performing and visual arts, featuring state-of-the-art architecture, underground parking, and outdoor sculpture space. This ambitious project aims to attract visitors and enhance the cultural landscape of the area.
In terms of the upcoming studio tour, the chair noted that 17 artists will participate, with a new format allowing multiple artists to showcase their work at select homes. This year, the tour will not include buses, a change from previous years, and will instead utilize an online map accessible via QR code to guide attendees.
The meeting also addressed fundraising challenges faced by the organization, particularly following the passing of a key fundraiser, Linda Chidsey. Efforts are underway to secure sponsorships and promote the event through colorful brochures and postcards.
As part of the festivities, the Red Barn Studio, owned by honoree Kathleen House, will be open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes for visiting multiple studios. The event promises to maintain its traditional charm while incorporating new elements to engage the community.
