During a recent government meeting, George Kelleczyk from the Rockdale Soilwater Conservation District highlighted pressing concerns regarding livestock and poultry initiatives in the Upper Oak Mulghey Basin Area. He reported receiving numerous calls from residents across the six-county area about debris affecting pastures, emphasizing the need for support and resources. Kelleczyk provided contact information for Jonathan Bryant at the Georgia Department of Agriculture for further assistance.
In addition, Kelleczyk announced that DeKalb County is hosting a composting event this Saturday from 12:30 PM to 4 PM in Avondale Estates as part of their Green Deal Initiative. This event aims to promote composting and reduce food waste, contributing to climate change mitigation efforts. Participants who volunteer for an hour will receive a free drink ticket.
Kelleczyk also addressed the growing concern over PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), chemicals found in drinking water. He noted that over 500 citizens attended a recent meeting in the Coosa River Basin to discuss the implications of PFAS contamination, underscoring the urgency of the issue for local communities.
