During a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on the severe weather shelter operations for the winter season from January 1 to March 31. The shelter, located at St. Dunstan's, was activated for 15 nights, accommodating a total of 155 individuals. The Urban League played a crucial role in this initiative, offering not only shelter but also essential services such as new coats, blankets, hot meals, and connections to housing resources. Notably, two individuals were successfully transitioned into permanent housing as a result of these efforts.

The meeting highlighted the collaboration among five North King County cities to enhance transportation options for those needing access to the shelter. Plans are underway to establish a shuttle service to improve connectivity, particularly for residents from areas like Woodinville. The Urban League's outreach efforts were commended, especially their adaptability during the summer months, where they provided cooling resources during heat waves.

Additionally, officials discussed the recent Point in Time Count conducted from January 22 to February 2, which involved over 1,350 interviews with individuals experiencing homelessness across 17 locations in King County. This year's count utilized a respondent-driven sampling method to better connect with hidden populations. Preliminary results indicate a focus on understanding the demographics of homelessness in the region, with a comprehensive report expected by the end of the year.
