In a recent government meeting, Jocelyn Wood from the Washington Center presented an overview of the organization's activities and achievements over the past year. Wood highlighted the center's role in supporting local arts and culture, managing five venues in Thurston County, including the Washington Center in downtown Olympia and the SPSCC Kenneth J. Menard Center.
Wood reported a successful recovery from the pandemic, noting that the center hosted 416 events last season, with 47 sold-out performances and nearly 80,000 tickets sold, attracting over 103,000 attendees. She emphasized the importance of local artistic partnerships, mentioning that the center collaborates with 17 regional artistic partners who have priority in scheduling performances.
The meeting also touched on the center's outreach efforts, which aim to serve both residents and visitors to Thurston County. Wood expressed optimism about the future, stating that the center is significantly outperforming national trends in attendance and engagement. The discussion underscored the vital role of local arts organizations in fostering community connections and cultural enrichment.
