During a recent government meeting, residents expressed strong opposition to the proposed extensions of Eagle Crest Drive and Wanna Drive, citing significant concerns over increased traffic and safety issues. The discussions highlighted that Eagle Crest Drive is already a heavily trafficked route, serving as the primary entrance for the Boulders and Table Rock neighborhoods.

Residents fear that extending Eagle Crest Drive would create a shortcut for drivers seeking to avoid school zones, leading to a surge of traffic through the Cottonwood development. This influx could negatively impact the quality of life for those living in Cottonwood, as well as residents along Eagle Crest Drive, who anticipate a dramatic increase in vehicles on their streets.

One resident noted that the extension could save only a few minutes of travel time, yet the convenience might entice many to use the route, resulting in a \"flood of new traffic.\" Concerns were also raised regarding emergency response times, with residents questioning the practicality of fire services navigating through the extended routes during emergencies.

In response to these concerns, approximately 150 residents signed a petition urging the city to reconsider the extensions. They proposed alternative solutions, including curving Ranch Road where it intersects with the proposed extension and renaming it, as well as making the extension at Wai Naha Drive a dead-end or turnaround.

The residents argued that the proposed extensions would not benefit any of the three communities involved and suggested that maintaining their separation would be more advantageous. Additionally, a resident submitted a letter with 12 specific questions regarding the Cottonwood development, seeking further clarification from city officials.

The meeting underscored the community's desire for thoughtful urban planning that prioritizes safety and quality of life over convenience.
