In a recent government meeting, plans were unveiled for a new community gathering space designed to enhance local recreational opportunities. The proposed site will feature a covered pavilion, a storage building, a soccer field, and a double pickleball court, all aimed at fostering community engagement and outdoor activities.
The centerpiece of the project is a 3,040 square foot open-air pavilion, constructed with a steel frame and clad in natural stone to match the existing church nearby. This pavilion will include tamper-resistant picnic tables, providing a space for gatherings and events. Adjacent to the pavilion, a 150 square foot storage building will house maintenance supplies, featuring wood construction and similar stone and metal finishes.
The soccer field, measuring 50 by 80 feet, is designed for small-sided games, accommodating 3 versus 3 play and up to 5 a side. It will be equipped with a turf surface, safety walls, and outdoor LED lighting, with installation handled by Urban Soccer Park, a company experienced in creating soccer facilities nationwide. The pickleball court will allow for two teams to play simultaneously, featuring a smooth concrete surface and fencing to keep balls contained.
Safety and accessibility have been prioritized in the design, with five on-site parking stalls, including two ADA-compliant spaces. Additional parking will be available in the adjacent church lot, which exceeds code requirements. The area will also be secured after hours, with staff responsible for maintenance.
While the project has received positive feedback for its potential to serve the community, some concerns were raised regarding spectator seating and amenities. Currently, there are no designated seating areas around the soccer and pickleball courts, and the provision of water fountains for spectators has not been confirmed.
The proposal aims to create a vibrant community hub, promoting active lifestyles and social interaction among residents. Further discussions will likely address the concerns raised, ensuring the facility meets the needs of all users.
