In a recent meeting, Harry Snyder announced that the 2020-2021 school year at Great Oaks is witnessing a record enrollment of 3,324 juniors and seniors across its four campuses. This figure represents an increase of 88 students compared to the previous year and marks a 25% rise since 2019. The board commended the leadership teams at the campuses for their efforts in achieving this milestone.

Additionally, the board authorized the district to seek statements of qualifications from architectural firms for a master renovation and expansion project, as recommended by the building and assets committee. They also approved the formation of advisory committees for district campuses and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, following recommendations from the education program design and evaluation committee.

In legislative updates, Mr. Carter highlighted three significant developments. Ohio has enacted the Religious Expression Days Act, which mandates public schools to allow up to three excused absences per year for students observing religious holidays. A new cell phone policy requires schools to establish guidelines to mitigate excessive screen time, which has been linked to mental health issues among youth, with a deadline for implementation set for July 2025. Lastly, a new law mandates that all public schools in Ohio must have Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on-site by October of this year, enhancing emergency preparedness across the state.
