One of the key changes involves the removal of 24-hour video surveillance for drop boxes, a requirement that was in place during the 2020 elections. Under the new SEB rules, specifically SB 202, all drop boxes must now be located indoors and can only be monitored during advanced voting hours, significantly reducing oversight compared to previous regulations. This shift has raised concerns among officials about the security of the voting process, as they previously invested in installing cameras at over 30 drop boxes, which were subsequently removed.
Additionally, the Elections Division is preparing for the upcoming November election by finalizing signage requirements and formulating instructional materials for poll managers. They are also actively recruiting poll workers, with training scheduled to begin on September 24th. The division believes it has met its recruitment targets, prioritizing workers who participated in the 2024 election.
The next meeting on September 20th will further address additional rules and regulations, indicating ongoing adjustments to the electoral process as officials strive to ensure a secure and efficient voting experience.
