In a recent government meeting, officials approved the annual implementation plan for opioid-related funding for the years 2024 and 2025, in partnership with the Hanley Foundation. This agreement will facilitate the provision of mental health services through the Vandy Foundation, which has been instrumental in addressing the opioid crisis in the community.
The county anticipates receiving funding from the opioid settlement, although this year’s allocation has been significantly reduced to approximately $68,000, down from previous amounts. Officials expressed concerns that this trend of decreasing funding may continue in the coming years.
The Hanley Foundation has contracted with Central Florida Behavioral Health to deliver essential services, and the funds are earmarked specifically for these initiatives. During the meeting, it was highlighted that the foundation is actively engaging with local schools, distributing marketing materials, and promoting awareness about opioid-related issues.
One official noted the surprising necessity of having Narcan available in elementary schools, underscoring the severity of the opioid crisis. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to approve the annual plan, reflecting a commitment to tackling the ongoing challenges posed by opioid addiction in the community.
