During a recent government meeting, community members voiced their concerns regarding the need for additional pickleball courts at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill. Phyllis DiCesso, representing a growing group of pickleball enthusiasts, highlighted the challenges faced by players due to the limited availability of courts.

DiCesso explained that what began as a small gathering of ten players three years ago has now expanded to over twenty participants, with games occurring nearly every night. Currently, players are forced to use tennis courts, which do not accommodate the specific dimensions and requirements of pickleball, leading to difficulties for both novice and experienced players.

The group is requesting the county commissioners to consider converting an adjacent tennis court into two dedicated pickleball courts. DiCesso emphasized that the sport is rapidly gaining popularity across the nation, and the existing facilities are inadequate to meet the growing demand.

Additionally, she pointed out the discomfort of waiting for extended periods to play, especially in the heat, as there is limited shade and torn wind screens on the courts. The community is advocating for improvements to enhance their playing experience and encourage more residents to participate in the sport.
