Local officials are grappling with a surge in illegal dumping and theft at a community transfer facility, prompting urgent measures to address the escalating issues. Reports indicate that not only are individuals illegally disposing of waste, but there have also been incidents of theft involving scrap metal and even items left behind by workers, including a trailer.

One alarming incident involved a person who brazenly opened the facility's overhead garage door, dumped a significant amount of garbage—including a piano—and left before the site attendant arrived. In response to these challenges, the sheriff's department has installed a specialized camera designed to capture clearer images in low light, enhancing surveillance capabilities at the site.

To further deter illegal activities, officials have implemented physical barriers, such as placing cones to restrict vehicle access. Additionally, plans are underway to improve security measures with new locks and latch covers for the facility doors. Officials are also seeking quotes from fencing companies to install a gate, with estimated costs exceeding $10,000. This project will require a bidding process, and three quotes are being gathered, with a decision expected to be presented to the board for approval in October.
