In a recent Torrington Police Department meeting, several officers were recognized for their exceptional service and dedication to public safety. Investigator Robert Bridal and Investigator Guida were commended for their tireless efforts in locating a missing 14-year-old boy who had disappeared from his home. The investigation, which began on June 16, 2023, involved extensive searches using canines and ATVs, as well as collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the FBI. After ten days of relentless pursuit, the boy was found safe, leading to Investigator Guida receiving an Exceptional Duty Award for his professionalism and commitment.
Additionally, Officer Matt Blanek was awarded the Chief Citation for his bravery during a home invasion incident on December 8, 2023. Responding to a report of suspicious individuals, Officer Blanek confronted two suspects linked to a stolen vehicle. Despite facing danger, including an attempt to run him over, he successfully apprehended one suspect with the assistance of fellow officers and a drone team.
Sergeant Dustin Baldus was also recognized with a Chief Citation for his investigative work related to a series of thefts from cell tower sites. His meticulous efforts led to the identification and arrest of a suspect involved in multiple burglaries, showcasing his dedication to solving serious crimes affecting the community.
