During a recent government meeting, Terry Uggen, acting director of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the community's efforts in supporting foster children. Uggen emphasized the importance of ensuring these children feel loved and well-cared for, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the growing number of foster kids on Guam, many of whom are currently residing at the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) due to a shortage of foster families.
Community member Miss McManus shared her experiences volunteering with foster children, noting the joy it brings her to see familiar faces and contribute to their happiness. She acknowledged the difficulties these children endure and called for continued community support to uplift them.
Sean Sapp and Lauren Abraham, who spearheaded a recent community engagement initiative, also spoke at the meeting. Sapp thanked everyone involved for their contributions, which included providing haircuts, food, and quality time for the children. He emphasized the collective effort required to improve the lives of those in need and encouraged community members to take action and spread positivity.
The meeting underscored the critical role of community involvement in addressing the needs of foster children and fostering a supportive environment for their growth and well-being.
