In a recent government meeting, city officials discussed a significant redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the community, which has faced negative impacts in recent years. The project, spearheaded by local investor Candy Mashmore, is set to utilize tax increment financing (TIF) to support its development, projected to generate an estimated $1.7 million in increased tax revenue over its lifespan.

Ordinance 1013, currently under consideration, will allow the city to take title of the property temporarily to establish its value. This initiative is expected to yield approximately $163,000 for the city and $567,000 for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) over the TIF's duration.

Additionally, the city plans to provide financial support through Ordinance 1016, which includes a $360,000 forgivable loan contingent on the creation of 50 jobs, alongside a $240,000 non-forgivable loan at 4% interest over ten years. This funding is part of a broader $20 million project, which also includes over $250,000 in city funding.

The project will incorporate community benefits, including a mentor-protege program aimed at developing minority-owned businesses, paid internships for CMSD students, and regular community meetings to ensure local engagement throughout the project's lifecycle. City officials emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering economic growth and community involvement, despite the project's relatively modest scale compared to larger developments.
