On September 26th, students from Milan Bridal School's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs, along with the high school concert choir, participated in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association's Vocal Arts Day at the University of Michigan Flint campus. This marks the third consecutive year that director Shayla Powell has been invited as a guest conductor, guiding students in a celebration of choral music. Over 385 singers from various schools across the state attended the event, with high school students mentoring their younger peers, showcasing strong leadership within the choir sections.
In addition to the musical achievements, the first session of a new teacher orientation series was held on the same day, focusing on essential topics such as technology support, health insurance, and retirement plans. The session aimed to alleviate concerns that might distract teachers from their primary focus on classroom instruction.
On October 4th, Paddock Elementary School received the Safe Kids Award from the Washtenaw Council for Children for its implementation of a body safety program, distinguishing it among schools in Washtenaw County. The meeting also included heartfelt tributes to Alicia Upton, a long-serving educator in the district, who recently passed away. Colleagues expressed their admiration for her dedication and impact on students' lives. A celebration of her life is scheduled for October 26th at Merkle Funeral Home in Dundee, allowing friends and family to honor her memory.
