The City Council meeting highlighted the upcoming 63rd Annual Texas Jazz Festival, set to take place from October 18th to 20th at Heritage Park in Corpus Christi. This year’s festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of jazz, featuring over 50 live band performances, 45 craft vendors, and 14 food trucks, with an expected attendance of around 30,000 visitors.
The festival, recognized as the longest-running free jazz festival in the country, will kick off on Friday at 5:30 PM and continue until midnight, resuming Saturday at noon until 1 AM, and concluding Sunday at 6 PM. The event is open to all ages and free of charge, making it accessible to the entire community.
To ease transportation concerns, the city has partnered with the Texas Jazz Festival Society and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) to provide free shuttle services from three designated park-and-ride locations: the City Hall parking lot, Nueces County Courthouse parking lot, and Texas A&M University.
Nick Martinez, president of the Jazz Festival Society, expressed gratitude to city officials and staff for their support, noting the festival's origins in 1959 as a simple jam session. He emphasized the festival's commitment to giving back to the community, including donations to local educational institutions and charities.
The meeting concluded with a video presentation showcasing the festival's rich history and the unique experience it offers, inviting residents and visitors alike to enjoy a weekend filled with music and community spirit.
