During a recent government meeting, Pastor Pinky Henley addressed the commission, expressing gratitude for the ongoing development of the Garden of Hope and Prayer in Fort Pierce. This memorial garden, conceived in 2014 by the late James Brown, aims to honor victims of gun violence and other forms of violence.
Pastor Henley, representing the Survivors of Murder Victims Support Group, highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Public Works Department and other organizations to enhance the garden's significance. She noted that over 60 names of victims are currently memorialized on a wall, with plans to include additional names of those lost since 2019.
The garden, located at Citrus and 25th Street, has seen recent improvements, including the installation of lights and a new bench donated by Project LIFT. Henley emphasized the importance of maintaining the garden's beauty in memory of Pastor Brown's vision, thanking the city officials for their support in bringing this project to fruition.
The meeting underscored the community's commitment to honoring victims and supporting their families, reflecting a broader initiative to address the impact of violence in the area.
