Residents of Moultrie Drive voiced significant concerns during a recent government meeting regarding drainage issues stemming from construction activities on a neighboring property. Mary Robertson, representing her family, detailed how the addition of dirt on the adjacent lot has disrupted the drainage system, leading to severe plumbing problems in their home at 203 Busch.
Since moving in 2021, the Robertson family had not experienced any drainage issues until June, when construction began. The new dirt placement has caused water runoff to back up into their septic system, resulting in frequent backups and necessitating multiple pump-outs. Robertson explained that their plumbing struggles have made it impossible to use appliances like the dishwasher and have forced them to stagger laundry and showering to avoid further complications.
Despite their efforts to seek assistance from various agencies, including stormwater management and DHEC, the family has found no resolution. The board members expressed sympathy for the Robertsons but clarified that their authority was limited to reviewing the construction of a garage on the neighboring property. They indicated that if the garage were built, it could exacerbate the existing drainage problems.
Robertson and her family are now left seeking further guidance on how to address the drainage issues, as they have been unable to find a responsible party to assist them. The meeting highlighted the challenges residents face when construction impacts their property and the limitations of local governance in resolving such disputes.
