In a recent government meeting, Mayor Scott Worley proclaimed October 2, 2024, as the 175th anniversary of Euclid Lodge Number 65, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, marking a significant milestone for the oldest Masonic Lodge in DuPage County. Established in 1849 by seven charter members, including notable figure Joseph Naper, the lodge has played a pivotal role in the economic and social development of Naperville for over a century and a half.
The proclamation highlighted the lodge's extensive charitable contributions, which began with financing the completion of the Naperville Academy in 1852. Since then, members have engaged in various philanthropic efforts, including supporting local organizations such as Loaves and Fishes and Naperville Pads, as well as contributing to veterans' memorials and hospitals.
Mayor Worley noted the lodge's historical significance, stating that it has been a cornerstone of community leadership, with many members serving in elected positions throughout Naperville's history. He emphasized that in the first century of the city, over 70% of council members were affiliated with the lodge, showcasing its influence in local governance.
As the city prepares to celebrate this milestone, the mayor expressed pride in the lodge's longstanding commitment to the community, reflecting on its deep roots in Naperville's history since the settlement was only 18 years old at the time of the lodge's founding. The upcoming anniversary is expected to be a momentous occasion for both the lodge and the city, honoring a legacy of service and leadership that has shaped Naperville for generations.
