During a recent council meeting, city officials gathered to discuss the successful Show Me State Airshow, which celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Airshow director Penny Smith, along with key team members, highlighted the event's achievements and the extensive collaboration that made it possible.
Smith expressed gratitude for the support from over 250 volunteers and various city departments, including police and fire services, which contributed to the event's smooth execution. The airshow not only honored local World War II veterans but also attracted attendees from five counties, showcasing a strong community effort.
Council members praised the organization of the event, noting that despite some traffic challenges due to ongoing bridge repairs, attendance exceeded expectations. The council also discussed plans for next year's airshow, scheduled for September 13-14, with early preparations already underway.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued community involvement, as organizers seek to expand the event further, emphasizing its importance in honoring veterans and fostering local pride.
