The proposed center, approved by the Sarasota City Commission in 2018 as part of the Bay master plan, is envisioned as a \"center of excellence for arts and culture.\" It will not only host major productions like Broadway shows and concerts but also provide spaces for local arts organizations to perform, fostering a sense of community engagement and accessibility.

Key features of the project include a large theater with a capacity of 2,500 to 2,700 seats, a smaller venue for local performances accommodating 600 to 800 attendees, and a multipurpose space for community events. Additionally, an outdoor lawn is planned to host up to 3,000 people, designed to break down barriers to access and welcome all community members, especially during the winter months.
