In a recent government meeting, officials outlined significant developments in the rehabilitation of the local seawall and the enhancement of the cultural district, emphasizing resilience and community engagement. The seawall, which has not seen substantial work since the 1930s, is set for major reconstruction to support both commercial and recreational boating, as well as to bolster resilience against flooding.

Plans include the installation of 15 custom-designed floating day docks, which are deemed more resilient than traditional fixed docks. The project will also feature a redesigned waterfront area, although plans for a food and beverage village have been put on hold due to logistical challenges related to floodplain management.

Officials highlighted the importance of transforming the park's front area, currently dominated by parking, into green parkland. This initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the space, with plans for a town square that will serve as a pedestrian-friendly gathering area.

The meeting also addressed the restoration of architecturally significant buildings within the cultural district, with an estimated budget of $5 to $6 million for necessary repairs and upgrades. Notably, partnerships with local businesses have facilitated some of the restoration efforts, including significant contributions from PGT Innovations and Cool Today, which provided new windows and HVAC systems at no cost.

As the city collaborates closely with various stakeholders, including the municipal government, officials are committed to ensuring that the cultural district not only preserves historical structures but also meets the community's needs for affordable event spaces.
