During a recent government meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission recognized local scout Matthew Polaitis for his significant contributions to community parks through his Eagle Scout project. Polaitis, a member of Troop 329 from Saint Helen School in Riverside, Ohio, led an initiative to repaint basketball court lines at two local parks, transforming previously neglected areas into functional recreational spaces.
The presentation, which included a PowerPoint showcasing the project, highlighted the meticulous work involved in laying out and measuring the court lines. Parks Chair Ron Brahm praised Polaitis for his dedication and the positive impact of his project, noting that it enabled the revival of community sports programs that had been hindered by faded markings.
Polaitis expressed gratitude to his fellow scouts and mentors who assisted him, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of scouting. He is currently working towards completing his Eagle Scout requirements, with just four merit badges remaining. The meeting concluded with the presentation of a plaque from the mayor to Polaitis, celebrating his achievement and the ongoing contributions of local scouts to the community.
In addition to the recognition of Polaitis, the meeting also included a discussion on the third quarter financials, which will be presented by the city manager in a subsequent session. The council members expressed their appreciation for the youth's involvement in community service, reinforcing the importance of fostering leadership and civic responsibility among young people.
