In a recent government meeting, two significant applications were reviewed, both aimed at enhancing community facilities and housing options.
The first application involved the subdivision of the McKinney Manor parcel to facilitate the construction of the Children Rising Center, a facility dedicated to childcare and other community services. Andrew Shuster from Ashman Architects presented the proposal, which received unanimous support from the governing body after a brief public comment period that yielded no opposition. The approval included three specific conditions related to the future site plan review for the center.
The second application focused on the transformation of the former Mayflower Hotel into multifamily apartments. Brian Bouchard from CHA Consulting detailed the plan to convert the existing six-story building, which previously housed 82 hotel rooms, into 52 residential units. The project will involve interior renovations without major exterior changes, aside from some site improvements to enhance pedestrian access and amenities for future residents. The applicant has committed to providing 10% of the units as affordable housing, aligning with city regulations.
Both projects reflect ongoing efforts to improve community infrastructure and housing availability, with the Children Rising Center expected to serve local families and the Mayflower redevelopment contributing to the area's residential capacity. The meeting concluded without any opposition to either application, indicating strong community support for these developments.
