In a recent government meeting, significant updates were shared regarding ongoing public works projects aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility within the city.
The construction team is nearing completion on night striping along Washing Way, which includes the installation of bike lane symbols. This work is expected to wrap up this week, alongside final signal adjustments for the Nichols and Olympia Way project, which has recently been paved. New lane markings to reduce travel lanes and create bike lanes on both roads are anticipated to be visible next week.
Additionally, the city council awarded a contract for an ADA improvement project that will install eight ramps on Louisiana Street. With 11 bidders participating, this project is notable for its competitive bidding environment, resulting in a bid that came in $100,000 under the engineer's estimate. Construction is projected to commence within the next two to three weeks.
Other projects discussed include repairs to the ceiling of the Racquetball facility at Millen Valley, which has recently been advertised for bids, with the opening scheduled for mid-October. Plans are also in motion to install ten speed bumps along Alabama Street and two additional bumps on Michigan Street near Ocean Beach, aimed at improving traffic safety.
The meeting concluded with positive feedback from attendees, highlighting the successful navigation of new traffic patterns around the Civic Circle, indicating a community adaptation to recent changes.
