In a recent government meeting, the advisory committee approved a series of community events aimed at enhancing local engagement and tourism. Among the events slated for the upcoming budget are the Battleground Festivals, Harvest Days, Oktoberfest, and the Evote Cascadia Pride event. Additionally, the Ladybug Bazaar and a geocaching event organized by the Southwest Washington area geocachers were also included, marking a significant expansion from previous years when only a couple of events were held.
The meeting also addressed the replacement of vehicles and technology within the Public Works and Police Departments. A plan to replace six vehicles for Public Works and four for the Police Department was outlined, with funding sourced from a dedicated savings account. The Police Department's vehicle replacement had been delayed due to previous financial constraints, but funding has now been restored.
Another key topic was the replacement of the audiovisual system in the council chambers, which has been experiencing significant issues. The current system, installed in the early 2000s, will be fully replaced, with a budget of approximately $150,000 allocated for the upgrade. The council emphasized the importance of selecting a reliable vendor to avoid the pitfalls experienced by other agencies in the region.
Lastly, the meeting concluded with a discussion on fee schedules, which will see a 3.1% increase for regular fees, alongside adjustments to electronic vehicle charging rates and the introduction of new parking and video redaction fees. The council encouraged community feedback and questions before the next regular meeting.
