One of the key initiatives discussed was the introduction of a non-fatal shooting policy in 2023, which has made it more challenging to dismiss serious cases such as aggravated assault and attempted murder. Dismissals now require approval from senior office personnel and adherence to a checklist ensuring due diligence. The office also launched the V11 initiative at the beginning of 2024, focusing on 11 specific violent offenses. The initiative aims to address violent crime more effectively, with approximately 800 to 1,000 defendants currently categorized under this program.

In addition to violent crime, the meeting addressed the rising concern of auto thefts and break-ins, particularly among youth. The newly established CARS unit targets first and second-time nonviolent offenders, providing rehabilitative interventions to prevent escalation into more serious crimes. Early results show promise, with only 7 out of 100 participants reoffending after undergoing the program.

Furthermore, the office is focusing on reducing recidivism rates through a meaningful supervision program. This initiative encourages prosecutors to incorporate rehabilitative conditions into plea agreements, tailored to the individual needs of defendants. Collaborations with various organizations aim to provide support in areas such as substance abuse counseling, job training, and education, fostering a pathway to reintegration into society.
