In a recent government meeting, officials reviewed the landscape architectural design for a new retail establishment, the Barrel House, set to occupy the long-vacant site at 1350 South 108 Street. Previously home to Carpetown since the 1980s, the building has remained empty since 2022, making the proposed development a significant addition to the area.
The Barrel House will primarily function as a liquor store and tasting room, utilizing approximately 10,000 square feet of space. The establishment's hours of operation are proposed to be standard for such venues, running from 8 AM to 2 AM on weekends, with slightly earlier closing times during the week.
The design plans include a variety of new features, such as a wine cellar, an IT storage room, and a beer cooler, while retaining some existing office spaces. A notable addition is a 700-square-foot bar and tasting area, which will enhance the building's offerings. The layout also includes a cashier's area and a dedicated space for a cigar display and humidor.
The entrance will feature a new vestibule designed with concrete stoops, regia cement wall paneling, and glass windows to harmonize with the building's existing aesthetic. This development is anticipated to revitalize the location and provide a fresh retail option for the community.
