During a recent meeting of the Austin Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees, significant discussions centered on the results of intruder detection audits conducted at 24 schools. Dr. Jacob Reach, Chief Officer of Government Relations and Board Services, reported that seven schools did not meet one or more safety standards during these audits, necessitating corrective actions. The district is actively collaborating with the affected campuses to address these issues, with a requirement for staff training to be completed within 60 days of the audit.
The audits, which began in September and concluded in October, are part of AISD's ongoing commitment to enhance school safety. A detailed report of the audits has been made available to the board, with further discussions on specific safety measures planned for a closed session.
In addition to safety updates, the meeting also included a budget update presented by interim Chief Financial Officer Katrina Montgomery. She highlighted the district's engagement in over 40 scheduled events related to Proposition A, indicating ongoing efforts to manage and communicate financial matters effectively within the district.
The board's focus on safety and financial transparency underscores AISD's commitment to fostering a secure and well-managed educational environment for its students and staff.
