In a recent workshop aimed at shaping the future of Deltona, community members gathered to engage in a visioning process for the city’s development through 2050. The session, led by senior planner from JV Pro, emphasized the importance of community input in creating a comprehensive plan that reflects the needs and aspirations of residents.
Participants were encouraged to use their smartphones to respond to polling questions, providing insights into their ZIP codes and previous workshop attendance. This interactive approach aimed to gauge community engagement and gather preliminary ideas for improving Deltona. The planner highlighted the significance of these contributions, stating, “We hope you brought more than one idea,” as attendees were prompted to share their thoughts on various topics, including drainage, land use, and transportation.
The workshop also served as a platform to present a draft vision statement for Deltona, which envisions the city as “Central Florida's premier community for family-friendly living” by 2050. This vision encompasses diverse employment opportunities, safe neighborhoods, and a robust transportation network, alongside sustainable parks and public facilities.
Looking ahead, the city plans to undertake several planning initiatives, including updates to its comprehensive plan and land development code. The workshop facilitator stressed that a clear community vision is essential for guiding these efforts, stating, “You can't develop a plan unless you have a clear objective of where you want that plan to end up.”
As the workshop concluded, participants were reminded of the collaborative nature of this project, with city staff and consulting teams working together to refine Deltona’s future. The engagement of community members is seen as vital to ensuring that the planning process aligns with the desires and needs of those who live in the area.
