During a recent school board meeting, excitement filled the room as students and faculty showcased their achievements in the Summit County Academic Challenge League. The evening began with heartfelt thanks to the students for their dedication, particularly as they prepared for a rehearsal that same night.
Lori Day, the academic challenge advisor for the past three years, was introduced to share insights about the program's progress. Under her guidance, the academic challenge club has made significant strides, including being invited to film competitions for two consecutive years on WEWS.
Viv Burke, a senior and member of the high school academic team, highlighted their recent trip to Cleveland, where they recorded an episode for the Academic Challenge TV show, set to air on February 22 at 11:30 AM on News Channel 5. Burke proposed a fun interactive segment for the board members, inviting them to answer questions similar to those posed in the academic challenge competitions.
The atmosphere turned competitive as board members engaged in a quiz-style game, using bells as buzzers to answer trivia questions. The first question, regarding the last monarch of the Holy Roman Empire, was answered correctly, setting a lively tone for the evening.
This meeting not only celebrated the students' accomplishments but also fostered a sense of community and engagement between the school board and the academic challenge participants. The event underscored the importance of academic excellence and teamwork within the district.
