The recent government meeting highlighted significant achievements in education, recognizing outstanding students from Bee Cave Middle School and Lake Travis High School.
The meeting commenced with a pledge and a moment of silence, followed by the presentation of awards. Bee Cave Middle School's honors band was celebrated for being named a commended winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Project, an accolade awarded by the Foundation for Music Education. This recognition places the band among the top 25 middle schools in the nation, marking the second time they have received this honor. Band director Greg Demore expressed pride in the students' accomplishments and their participation in upcoming competitions.
Following this, Lake Travis High School principal Debbie Garinger announced that 36 students have qualified for the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Out of over 1.3 million entrants, these students are recognized for their exceptional academic abilities. The school boasts 14 National Merit semifinalists and 22 Commended Scholars. Students took turns sharing their aspirations, with many expressing interest in prestigious universities such as UT Austin, MIT, and Rice University, and fields ranging from computer science to psychology.
The meeting underscored the commitment to academic excellence within the district, celebrating the hard work of both students and educators.
