In a recent government meeting, President Everett Cromwell reported on four public hearings that were presented to the city council, highlighting significant developments in local housing projects.
The first item discussed was the Bella Lane subdivision, located off Flamingo and Cascia Street. The proposal aimed to subdivide parcels so that three existing fourplex buildings would each occupy their own parcel. The city council approved this recommendation.
Next, the council addressed an appeal concerning the Falcon Townhome Subdivision preliminary plat, situated near Lake Lowell and South Middleton Road. This proposal included one common lot and 44 buildable lots for single-family attached dwelling units. However, the city council denied the plat, citing non-compliance with the development agreement. The original plan required adjustments to road layouts and parking, which the council deemed insufficiently adhered to in the revised proposal.
The third item was the Cayuse Ridge annexation, rezone, and preliminary plat, located off Dooley Lane and South Midland Boulevard. This project, which includes 33 single-family detached dwelling units and four common lots, received approval from the city council following a favorable recommendation.
Lastly, the council discussed a vacation of right-of-way for the White Pines apartment project near Hawaii Avenue and South Ivy Street. This project had previously been linked to a conditional use permit for an affordable housing complex on the site of an old hospital. However, the city council had previously denied a rezoning request for the area, insisting that existing density regulations remain in place.
These discussions reflect ongoing efforts to manage local housing developments while balancing community needs and regulatory compliance.
